My first Hill station experience.
DARJEELING: GHOOM
Darjeeling’s Ghoom (also spelled Ghum) is a quiet, mist-covered hill suburb known for its old-world charm and stunning Himalayan views. At 7,407 feet, it hosts India’s highest railway station on the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway route, where the toy train winds through sharp curves and scenic valleys. Ghoom is also home to the historic Yiga Choeling Monastery, famous for its serene ambience and large Maitreya Buddha statue. The area’s cool weather, drifting clouds, and heritage sites make it a peaceful escape that beautifully complements the livelier town of Darjeeling just a short ride downhill.
